NH Collection – Gran Hotel Calderón Barcelona

Hello world, it has been a VERY long time since I posted last, and definitely a lovely long summer. Mostly full of travel and adventure, so I am finally catching up now. I wanted to share the details on an amazing hotel i stumbled across in Barcelona.

For my cousins 30th Birthday, we decided to visit Barcelona, for a girlie city break over the last weekend in July. With barely any planning, I went on the standard hotel quest for a beautiful, value for money stay in the centre of the city, with the obvious filters ‘Cheap’ AND ‘Luxury’… which i’m sure you know as well as I do, no such hotel exists. After searching for hours and hours, debating on location vs price, I closed my laptop and gave up.

My next attempt lead to compromising with 2 nights in a centrally located hostel (not a room share) which was bright and cosy, nothing too special and definitely not luxury, but clean and comfy is all we needed whilst visiting the city. For the last night (Saturday) I decided to book something a little more expensive and spacious, so that we were able to enjoy the last two days relaxing. A roof top Pool and room service were on the filters, and I was determined to find something special. That’s when I came across The NH Collection – Gran Hotel Calderón on booking.com, located right in the centre of Barcelona. I am so so so excited to share the details, and if you are planning on visiting Barcelona, I hope you will enjoy a stay in this gorgeous city space.

The Room

I had booked a premium room just 2 days before the weekend, which looking at the webpage appeared spacious, clean and comfy. I’m forever seeing overly priced hotels, which just don’t match the expectation I have for the price they cost. Lets face it, bright white sheets and Nespresso machines beats dated patterned sheets and off white wall paper… Although prices right now are over £200, with Genius Booking, somehow I managed to get a last minute deal for £150 – not bad for peak season.

When we checked in the staff took a copy of our passports and explained that we were early, so we changed into our swimwear and headed up to the rooftop – i’ll go into the rooftop below. It wasn’t until my cousin went to collect our room keys, that we found out we had been upgraded to a room with a terrace, for my cousins 30th celebrations. Not only was the room beautiful but the hotel staff gifted us bubbly and cake to celebrate!! Either my comments on booking or the passport gave her birthday away, but I was so grateful that the staff had payed attention and had gifted us in such a thoughtful and lovely way. It was the best surprise after a lovely afternoon by the pool. We definitely started the evening celebrations straight away! I mean it doesn’t get more 30-girls-weekend than bubbles on the terrace, overlooking Barcelona <3

The Rooftop

We spent Saturday afternoon poolside, enjoying cocktails and snacks from Eleven BCN 360 rooftop bar. I still can’t get over how relaxed the area was and stunning the views were. I couldn’t recommend this bar more if you’re ever in Barcelona and looking for a sunset cocktail with views of the city.

The Location

The hotel is situated North of Las Ramblas 1 minute walk from Plaça de Catalunya, a beautiful square surrounded by shops and the typical and iconic high rise city buildings. I couldn’t get over the beauty of the city from ground level. Not only does it look completely different to the aerial images, but the streets are alive with friendly people, tourists and cafés.

I hope you enjoyed reading about this perfect hotel for a city break away, and I really look forward to sharing more of my travel finds!
