Bamwoo – The Sustainable Bamboo Toothbrush Company

So, you use one every single day. Twice a day in fact. Maybe 3 times if you’re ODC. Your toothbrush gives you your shiny smile from the moment you wake, and cleans away your naughty edible sins before you get into bed. A pretty important job? I think so.

I’m not sure about you, but I certainly cannot function properly without the super smooth feeling of running my tongue along my pearly whites – Pure bliss right there.

I’ve never really thought about it before, but we use so many toothbrushes per year. With nearly the entire population of over 7 billion people using a toothbrush every day, we can start to envisage the future of this little plastic, non-biodegradable army of bristles……

Straight into the bin,

into landfill,

never to be seen or used again.

So that’s billions and billions of toothbrushes,

year after year,

D U M P E D.

Pretty dull right?

The Sustainable Solution

This is where Bamwoo come in. Finding a biodegradable alternative to our trusty plastic ‘can’t do without’, they sell toothbrushes made from Bamboo! Beautiful to look at, to hold and to brush, the toothbrushes are an amazing idea for those of you who are keen to do you bit for the environment.

So how biodegradable is this tooth brush??

The brush is 96% biodegradable (everything including the paint, apart from the bristles), and once you have cut the bristles off with scissors, you simply throw your bamboo brush into your green bin. No hassle, no waste, just easy biodegradable recycling right there.

The bristles themselves are made from nylon-6. There are alternatives to using nylon, and that’s apparently bristles made from recycled pigs hair, but that’s not something I would want to support or use, so I’m sticking with the nylon-6 for now.

The brushes are also incredibly well priced, so there is no excuse for not jumping on this eco-friendly, sustainable bandwagon.

1 Brush = £3.45 – AMAZING! Plus 1 brush = 1 tree planted!

1 Year supply x 6 Brushes = £18.95 – These come in one bulk to save on carbon footprint (6 trees!)

The Bamwoo Bamboo toothbrushes are not only a great price, but for each brush you buy, they plant one whole TREE! Sadly 90% of Madagascar’s forests have been destroyed, which is detrimental to their diverse and unique animal and plant species on the island. These trees will be planted in countries such as Madagascar, to help improve biodiversity and the lively hood of those who live in the beautiful but damaged corners of the world.

Bamwoo’s mission is to help save the world bit by bit, and to promote sustainable biodegradable every day products such as your toothbrush.

I’ve been using my Bamwoo toothbrush for around 1 month now, and absolutely love it. I feel that changing every 2 months is ideal, but that also depends on how tough you are when brushing. For me, I like a strong, medium bristle brush, which these are, so they are perfect in my eyes. I wouldn’t say they are super strong, but I guess they’re not there to scrub your gums away. It’s really down to preference. Another thing I like about the Bamwoo Brush, is that they aren’t massive! Nothing worse than not being able to reach and clean your back teeth properly (HA i’m still finding this gross to be sharing – but hey, worth knowing as I know some people who dread cleaning their teeth, regardless of it being a daily necessity). So there you are with the facts.
